Sound Therapy
Sound has been used for thousands of years to realign the body’s vibration and promote physical and emotional well-being. The use of sound for healing is believed to date back to ancient Greeks, who used music as a way to heal mental disorders.
What is sound therapy?
Sound therapy is a form of energy healing used to treat physical and mental conditions. Sound is a powerful tool that can guide consciousness into higher realms to induce healing. The harmonizing effect produced by sound creates a soothing feeling throughout the entire body.
Music therapy is a form of sound therapy. It involves a person listening to specific vibrations and frequencies to promote relaxation, alleviate stress and anxiety, and heal various physical and emotional issues. Music can slow the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and reduce levels of stress hormones. Research shows that music can help the brain’s ability to make new connections between nerve cells.
In sound therapy sessions, also known as ‘Sound Baths,’ various musical instruments create a relaxing meditation experience. The combination of sound in this relaxed meditative state elevates consciousness while opening doors to the subconscious, allowing for massive spiritual transformation and healing.

The Science Of Sound Therapy
At the basis of all thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is the communication between neurons in our brains. The brain has billions of neurons, and each neuron connects on average, to thousands of others. Neurons are information messengers. They use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information between different areas of the brain. These electrical impulses are brainwaves. Brainwaves occur at different frequencies measured in Hertz (Cycles per second). Our brainwaves change according to what we are doing and feeling. When they are fast, we feel hyper and wired, and when slow, we feel relaxed, tired, and sluggish.
There are five main types of brainwave frequencies:
-
- Delta Waves (.5 to 3 HZ) – Delta brainwaves are slow and are generated in the deepest meditation and dreamless sleep.
- Theta Waves (3 to 8 HZ) – Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but can also occur in deep meditation.
- Alpha Waves (8 to 12 HZ) – Alpha brainwaves are dominant during a quiet flow of thoughts with some meditative states.
- Beta Waves (12 to 38 HZ) – Beta brainwaves dominate our waking state of consciousness.
- Gamma Waves (38 to 42 HZ) – Gamma brainwaves are high-frequency brainwaves simultaneously processing information from different areas in the brain. The mind has to be quiet to access gamma. Research shows that gamma is most active in the states of unconditional love. In addition, gamma is believed to impact perception and consciousness, and a more significant presence of gamma relates to higher levels of consciousness and spiritual enlightenment.
Brainwave Entrainment
Sound healing works primarily through the principles of entrainment. Entrainment is when one system’s frequency entrains another system’s frequency. In sound therapy, music is used to shift brainwaves using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency to which the brainwave can attune. The entrainment process allows us to move from our normal beta brainwave state to a more relaxed alpha or even theta or delta state.
Every living thing has its unique frequency, from the organs in our body to our thoughts and feelings. The frequencies can get disrupted when something goes wrong in the outer environment. Sound therapy can rebalance those frequencies through entrainment.
History of Solfeggio Frequencies
Solfeggio frequencies date back to ancient history and are known to be the fundamental sound of both Eastern and Western religions. They are a series of six musical tones that evoke a positive mental, physical, and spiritual response.
11th-century Italian monk Guido D’Arezzo invented the original Solfeggio scale. He identified these tones as an aid in healing and bringing the body back into balance.
The Solfeggio scale is mathematically consistent with the patterns of the universe and has significant healing abilities, from repairing emotional trauma and opening up spiritual consciousness to deepening our relationships. The Solfeggio tones are even known to alter DNA.
When we say DO, RE, and MI in singing, it’s the Solfeggio scale. Solfeggio was created based on a natural system of tuning called Pythagorean tuning. The scale where the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, and B correspond to DO, RE, MI, FA, SO, LA SI or DO, RE, MI, FA, SO, LA, TI, UT.
Gregorian monks reportedly incorporated Solfeggio tones into their sacred music, the famous Gregorian Chants, to transmit spiritual blessings.
By the 16th century, the Gregorian chants were banned from church use, possibly because they were considered too sacred. Eventually, the Solfeggio frequencies were lost entirely.
Lost Frequencies
After being lost for 1500 years, Dr. Joseph Puleo, a neuropathic physician, rediscovered the ancient Solfeggio frequencies. He began his research of the Solfeggio frequencies in the mid-1970s. He used Pythagorean math to examine the Bible and discovered a pattern of six repeating codes around a series of sacred numbers 3, 6. And 9.
The codes uncovered a series of six electromagnetic sound frequencies that corresponded with the original six missing tones of the ancient Solfeggio scale. Puleo published his work in the book Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse in partnership with Dr. Leonard Horowitz.
The book describes how Puleo found a pattern of six repeating codes in the Bible. When deciphered using the ancient Pythagorean method of reducing the verse numbers to their single-digit integers, the code revealed a series of six sound frequencies that corresponded with the six missing tones of the ancient Solfeggio scale. The tones showed a pattern of 396, 417, 528, 639, 741, and 852, the electromagnetic sound frequencies of the original Solfeggio scale.
Dr. Leonard Horowitz applied the same patterns in his research and uncovered three more frequencies with excellent healing potential. Those additional frequencies are 174, 285, and 963. After being added to the original six, it makes nine Solfeggio frequencies in total.
What makes Solfeggio tones different from other tones?
The Earth’s natural heartbeat rhythm is the frequency of 7.83 Hz. This frequency is known as “Schumann Resonance,” named after German Physicist Winfried Otto Schumann. Schumann discovered the electromagnetic resonances between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere, the electrically charged part of the Earth’s atmosphere. A 7.83 Hz frequency is the human brain’s Alpha/Theta brainwave frequency. Alpha/Theta occurs during light sleep or deep relaxation and can induce calm and relaxation and increase creativity.
“The Solfeggio frequencies have such positive effects because they resonate in harmony with the Schumann resonance of 8 Hz, musically speaking. The frequencies are derived by beginning at 8 Hz and working up the musical scale octave by octave until the C note vibrates at 256 Hz and the A note vibrates at 432 Hz. When music is tuned to harmonize with this frequency, it is known as scientific tuning.”
Each tone on the scale corresponds to a frequency:
1. 396 Hz (UT): Turning Grief into Joy, Liberating Guilt & Fear
2. 417 Hz (RE): Undoing Situations & Facilitating Change
3. 528 Hz (MI): Transformation, Miracles & DNA Repair
4. 639 Hz (FA): Re-Connecting & Balancing Relationships
5. 741 Hz (SOL): Solving Problems, Expressions & Solutions
6. 852 Hz (LA): Awakening Intuition, Returning to Spiritual Order
The three additional tones:
7. 174 Hz: Security & Comfort.
8. 285 Hz: Cellular Repair & Immunity
9. 963 Hz: Higher Consciousness
Solfeggio frequencies can profoundly affect the conscious and subconscious mind to stimulate healing and promote vitality. In addition, many believe that the Solfeggio frequencies align us with the rhythms and tones that form the basis of the universe.
Chakras
Everything in the universe is governed by energy vibrating at specific frequencies, and the human body is no exception. The human body has a system of energy known as the chakra system. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “cycle.” The Chakra system is our energy center that helps regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system and emotions.
The body has seven main energy centers, each corresponding to specific nerves and internal organs. These seven chakras maintain a harmonious balance within the body that preserves and restores overall health. The chakras are situated along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head.
Root Chakra
Element: Earth
Color: Red
Musical Note: C
Solfeggio Frequency: 396 Hz
Starting from the base of the spine is the Root chakra, also known as the Muladhara chakra. Muladhara is a Sanskrit word meaning – Mula meaning “root,” and adhara, which means “base” or “support.”
The Root chakra is associated with the earth element and is represented by the color red, which symbolizes strength and vitality. Some of its corresponding body areas and organs are the base of the spine, pelvic floor, the last three vertebrae, the anus, large intestine, feet, and legs. The Root chakra is the base and foundation for the physical body, and it’s responsible for your sense of safety and grounding and provides a sense of connection with the Earth.
Sacral Chakra
Element: Water
Color: Orange
Musical Note: D
Solfeggio Frequency: 417 Hz
The Sacral chakra or Svadhisthana chakra is located just below the navel, right in the center of the lower belly. It is associated with the element of water, and the color is orange. Some of its corresponding body areas and organs are the genitals, lower back, and abdominal.
The Sacral chakra is the center of sensuality, emotions, feelings, intimacy, and stimulating pleasure. It plays an active role in our sexuality and expressing our sexual needs and desires. The Sacral chakra also relates to relationships, creativity, and empathy.
Solar Plexus chakra
Element: Fire
Color: Yellow
Musical Note: E
Solfeggio Frequency: 528 Hz
The Solar Plexus chakra, or Manipura chakra, is located in your stomach region. It is associated with the stomach, kidneys, liver, and adrenal glands. The element is fire, representing the color yellow, bringing brightness and balance of energy.
The Solar Plexus provides a source of personal power and a sense of belonging. It is responsible for confidence, self-esteem, happiness, joy, peace, and harmony. When balanced, the Solar Plexus embodies warrior energy and the power of transformation.
Heart Chakra
Element: Fire
Color: Green or Pink
Musical Note: F
Solfeggio Frequency: 639 Hz
The Heart chakra, or Anahata chakra, is located at the center of the spine at heart level. It affects the heart, lungs, chest, arms, and hands. The element is fire, and the color green or pink. This chakra is the center of compassion, empathy, love, and forgiveness. It governs our sense of trust, self-love, inner peace, gratitude, and connectedness. It also impacts our relationship with others, our ability to set healthy boundaries, and our emotional control.
The Heart chakra is the fourth of the seven chakras, putting it right in the middle, the center of creation. It is the unifier of the physical and spiritual chakras. The three lower chakras — the Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus are our connection to the physical world, and the three upper chakras — the Throat, Third Eye, and Crown are our connection to the spiritual world. The Heart chakra acts as the bridge between the physical and non-physical.
Throat chakra
Element: Ether
Color: Blue
Musical Note: G
Solfeggio Frequency: 741 Hz
The Throat chakra or Vishuddha chakra is located at the base of the throat. It’s linked to the mouth, jaws, tongue, shoulders, and neck. The element is ether and is represented by the color blue. It is the fifth chakra and one of the three upper chakras connected to the spiritual world. The throat chakra is responsible for communication, strong social skills, self-expression, honor, personal integrity, and the ability to speak your truth. It’s all about finding the balance between speaking and listening and seeking and sharing. A balanced throat chakra is free from the fear of judgment, negative self-talk, and the need for others’ approval.
Third Eye Chakra
Element: Light
Color: Purple
Musical Note: A
Solfeggio Frequency: 852 Hz
The Third Eye chakra or Ajna chakra in Sanskrit means “perceive,” “command,” or “beyond wisdom.” This chakra is located in the center of the head and is the basis of mystical intuition and insight. The Crown chakra is linked to the pineal gland and the pituitary gland. The color is purple.
Unlike the first five chakras that connect us to the physical world through the elements, the Third Eye and Crown chakra connect us beyond the earthly realm. Because of this, the Third Eye chakra is associated with light, and the Crown chakra is associated with cosmic energy. The Third Eye governs intuition, self-awareness, perception, spiritual communication, higher wisdom, clarity, and visualization.
Crown Chakra
Element: Cosmic Energy
Color: Violet or White
Musical Note: B
Solfeggio Frequency: 963 Hz
The Crown chakra, or Sahasrara chakra, located at the top of the head, is the most spiritual of the seven chakras. It is pure spirit and cosmic energy, so it’s not associated with any element, distinguishing the Crown chakra from the others. The color violet or white represents the Crown chakra.
The Crown chakra is our spiritual connection to self, others, and the universe. It’s about transformation, enlightenment, universal consciousness, and the connection to higher guidance. This chakra connects us to the spiritual realm, to Source. It gives us a sense of our divinity and the awareness that we are souls in a human body. The Crown chakra is also connected to our life’s purpose.
How do Solfeggio Frequencies relate to the Chakras?
When dealing with energy work, much attention is given to the chakras. The reason is that the chakra system is a significant structure in the anatomy of our energy field.
When a chakra’s energy flow is disrupted, it requires clearing, balancing, or unblocking.
Various types of energy work are effective in chakra healing, such as meditation, Reiki, crystals, and aromatherapy. In recent years, sound therapy has become increasingly popular due to its powerful ability to unblock these energy pathways using Solfeggio frequencies.
Each Solfeggio frequency matches a chakra and releases specific healing properties that promote healthy flow.
